I want to share quick updates on two great contests for high school students sponsored by the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Let me know if you are interested – I can send up to 3 students.

Each of their portfolios can contain no more than 5 pieces of artwork and a one-page artist’s statement about the work.  Portfolios must be received by Professor Marlin Adams at least 1 week before the competition (October 15).  There are no parameters on what type of art can be submitted, other than fitting in the portfolio.

post card contest

The Jimmy Carter NHS Education Program is holding an Art Contest which will highlight President Jimmy Carter’s upcoming 85th birthday.

The contest is open to K-12 grade students. Teachers are asked to have students complete their work at school to ensure that all entries are original work by the student.

The winners per grade level will be invited to be in the Peanut Festival Parade in Plains on September 26, 2009 and will have the chance to meet President Carter.

Exhibition for Self-Taught Artists

The Others – From Folk to Fiber Art

Invent your own artform? Grandma or Dad teach you a craft?

This exhibition and competition is open to all artists who are self-taught in their medium, or whose craft has been handed down through the generations. Formally trained artists are eligible for this exhibition if self-taught int he medium entered.

This is just a reminder of the JC Farm Bureau photography contest – “Eyes On Jones County”. The deadline is coming up on Aug. 31st. Categories are all ages, but include (7-12) and Adult. Remember they should be 5×7 and matted. For more info call 986-6434.
